Medical Approaches - A medical textbook for handheld computers developed by Dr. Mohammad Al-Ubaydli, a doctor and programmer from Cambridge University in Great Britain. Medical Approaches has been described as "A Medical Text That Heals Itself", in that doctors are invited to download the book for free and make comments, additions and improvements for the next edition, which they are again invited to download. BreastCa - A fast, easy-to-use, and accurate implementation of two commonly-used models of breast cancer risk prediction: the Gail and Claus models. Freeware.

Cancer Prediction Tools - Researchers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center have pioneered the use of computerized devices to help patients and their physicians decide among the major treatment choices for several cancers. Freeware.

CardioMath - Written by Dr. Chi-Ming Chow of St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Canada, CardioMath contains over 50 commonly used formulas in cardiovascular medicine. Freeware.

Code Blue - Designed for rapid acquisition of medication doses in a resuscitation setting, allows the user to quickly see all the medications relevant to a specific task on one screen. Shareware.

DoseCalc - Quickly calculates dosages for pediatric medications. Shareware.

EasyPulse - Need to take a manual pulse? Forgot your wrist watch? No second hand? Not so good at math? Simply count 20 beats and let EasyPulse determine the heart rate! Freeware.

EBM Calculator - Quickly calculates relevant statistics for diagnostic studies, prospective studies, case control studies, and randomized controlled trials. Freeware.

Fat Estimator - Estimates body fat percentage and ideal body weight using a tape-measure method by Covert Bailey. Freeware.

ICUmath - Features 85 equations for adult intensive care medicine. Freeware.

InfusiCalc - Infusion rate calculator for anesthesia, emergency medicine, critical care, and pediatrics. Shareware.

MD MELD - Calculates the new standard for liver transplantation (the MELD score.) Freeware.

MedCalc - Well-done medical calculator designed for rapid calculation of common equations used in internal medicine. Similar to MedMath (below), but with a few more equations. Freeware.

Medicalc - One of the first general-purpose medical calculators for the Palm OS^®, now available as public domain software (with source code). Freeware.

Medical Wizards - Features an array of specialized clinical calculators, including PediSuite, Drip Calculator, Tox Wizard, Fluid Wizard, and ER Suite. Shareware.

MediClear - An easy to use, quick, creatinine clearance calculator. Features include a numerical keypad, for simple entry, SI and imperial units and a large display. Freeware.

MedMath - Medical calculator for things like creatinine clearance, corrected sodium, FENa, etc. My personal favorite in this category. Freeware.

MentSTAT - Provides an easy single-view tool to administer and score the standard Mini Mental Status Exam (MMSE). Freeware.

OB Suite - Calculates gestational age (from LMP, EDC, US data, beta-HCG injection, and IVF transfer on day 3 or 5), when a patient will be a certain gestational age, when the trimesters start and end, and Bishop score. It also tracks procedures and OB patients. Freeware.

Opioid Conversion Program - The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins Center for Cancer Pain Research has designed an opioid conversion program to facilitate appropriate conversions from one opioid or route of administration to another. Freeware.

OsteoEd - Contains an overview of osteoporosis, and clinical calculators based on prediction rules for SCORE, and FRACTURE. Freeware.

Pedi-Dose - ER physician Dr. Martin Beattie wrote Pedi-Dose to do the simple but repetitive mathematical tasks required when treating pediatric patients. Charityware (requests a $20 donation to the American Heart Association).

PEPID Medical Calculators - Features hundreds of equations, and is fully integrated with the PEPID Suite of applications. Commercial.

powerOne Medical - Combines powerOne Personal and 37 templates for performing a wide range of medical calculations. Commercial.

PregCalc Pro - Excellent obstetric calculator, and one of the first medical apps for the Palm OS^® handheld. Highly recommended. Shareware.

PregTrak - Inexpensive alternative to PregCalc. Some users might prefer its simpler interface as well. Shareware.

ProStats - Graphically-oriented statistical analysis program which provides users with the opportunity to analyze data directly on their Palm device. Results are displayed both numerically and graphically to provide the user with the exact values as well as visual trends in the data. Shareware.

RiskyDisky - Uses the modified Gail model and Risk/Benefit Index to predict the 5-year risk for breast cancer and consequences of 5 years of tamoxifen therapy. It uses the Claus model to predict risk based on family history alone. The Frank model is used to predict chances for BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations. Commercial.

ScolioMeter - A handy guide to help primary care physicians decide when to refer, how to treat, and what to look for in idiopathic adolescent scoliosis. Freeware.

STAT Cardiac Risk Calculator - Estimates coronary heart disease risk using the Framingham Heart Study Prediction Scores. Freeware.
