Handspring Pulls the Plug on the Visor
On what will be a sad day for many PDA users, Handspring has quietly stopped selling the Visor line of Palm OS handhelds on its Web site. The writing has been on the wall for several months, with the abandonment of the Springboard expansion slot in the Treo series and the stagnation of the Visor line itself as signs that Handspring was planning to exit the handheld organizer market that founder Jeff Hawkins had virtually created only a few years earlier. In support of this new strategic direction, the Treo 90, an attempt to market a non-smartphone handheld using the Treo form factor, is also destined for oblivion. Although Handspring remains in the game with their Treo smartphones, the Visor's demise leaves only a couple of low-end grayscale models from Palm and Sony targeting the extreme entry-level market.

Virus Attack
If you feel guilty wasting time playing games on your handheld, fear not! With Virus Attack, you can at least feel like you're accomplishing something good for public health while you play. Your goal is kill all the viruses by forming multiple pills with the same color as the virus.
The complete InfoRetriever for Palm OS is now available! The program requires Palm OS 4.0 or higher, a processor running at 33 MHz or faster, 8 MB or more of RAM including 2 MB free for program files, and 24 MB of expansion memory of any type (SD, MMC, CF, etc.).
InfoRetriever instantly presents the best existing evidence regarding clinical questions by searching 7 content and tools databases, plus the full text of Mark Dambro's popular 5-Minute Clinical Consult. Content and tools include the full POEMs (Patient-Oriented Evidence that Matters) database, all Cochrane systematic review abstracts, over 120 clinical decision rules, over 1,800 diagnostic calculators, all USPSTF guidelines, all evidence-based NGC guidelines, and more. InfoRetriever is delivered via PDA, the Internet, and desktop/laptop/tablet PC as needed.
All results are organized and presented for immediate application to your practice, designed by clinicians for clinicians.
You can sign up here to receive a free 30-day trial of InfoRetriever. It just might change the way you practice medicine!
One of the most common questions I hear is whether or not it's possible to write prescriptions on a PDA. While the answer is, of course, a qualified "yes", electronic prescribing has yet to live up to its potential. Check out this article in the AMA News regarding five obstacles to electronic prescribing and what it will take to overcome them.
